## Visiting Researcher or Postdoctoral Fellow Positions

Every year the [Harvard-China Project on Energy, Economy and Environment](/home), an interdisciplinary program based at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, appoints a number of visiting researchers from other universities and several postdoctoral fellows. Visiting researchers range from **Ph.D. students** (called “fellows” at Harvard), to **postdoctoral fellows**, to junior and tenured **faculty members** on leave from a scholarly post elsewhere (“visiting scholars”). Postdoctoral fellows must have received their Ph.D. degree by the time of their appointment; we will currently only consider postdoc applicants who have secured external funding as our internally funded positions are filled. We encourage those who have strong academic and research records related to our [current research areas](/research) to apply for these opportunities. Please note that funding from the China Scholarship Council is prohibited.

#### Applications to join us for academic year 2026-27 are now closed. Applications to join us for academic year 2027-28 will be online in November.

Visits will typically fall between August 2027 and August 2028, although visits that fall outside of the academic year would also be considered.

*Applicants from all geographic regions are welcome to apply, with some preference for applicants from China, Southeast and South Asia, and Africa. Chinese language skills are sometimes advantageous, but not required.*

## Current Harvard Undergraduate and Graduate Students

The China Project welcomes inquiries from Harvard undergraduate and graduate students about participating in our research and advising theses and dissertations. We encourage inquiries from students with backgrounds and interests related to [our current research areas](/research).

Depending on the match in interests, we involve student researchers from other Boston-area universities on occasion.

## Prospective Undergraduate and Graduate Students

The China Project is a research program, **not** a degree-granting entity of Harvard University. To become a student, you must apply to a department or school of the university; see the [admissions page](http://www.harvard.edu/admissions/) of the main Harvard website. The "[Environmental Course Guide](http://www.environment.harvard.edu/student-resources/course-guide/courses)" on the website of the Harvard University Center for the Environment gives guidance on environment-related courses and programs across the university.
