This fall the Harvard-China Project continued its investigations of the “China 2030/2050” theme sponsored by the Harvard Global Institute (HGI). Our community continued its robust research into China's pressing environmental challenges, including the formation of haze pollution; the effects of carbon pricing policies; and the impact of climate change on renewable energy resources.
This fall also brought the appointment of China Project Chair Prof. Mike McElroy to a 5-year term on the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED). Professor McElroy and China Project Executive Director Chris Nielsen attended the annual general meeting of the CCICED in early December. This participation provides the Project with an opportunity to introduce its research findings directly into discussions informing Chinese policy-making and form new connections with leading decision makers and thought leaders on environment and development from across China and around the world.
The China Project also hosted a number of public events and seminars, including a film screening of the documentary Plastic China to a packed theater audience. Film director WANG Jiuliang joined by live video link for the talk, which was co-hosted by the Emergent Visions Film Series and Environment in Asia Event Series of the Fairbank Center and sponsored by the Harvard Global Institute.
The China Project also brought Harvard undergraduate participants in the summer 2017 program together for an alumni reunion. Students spent two weeks at Tsinghua University experiencing and learning about China's environment with students from across the globe.
Lastly, we are pleased to announce the China Project's new social media platforms - follow us to stay abreast of news, events, and commentaries.
