Xueyuan Cui
Xueyuan Cui is a Ph.D. candidate from The University of Hong Kong. He works with Michael B. McElroy and Chris P. Nielsen on the interaction between power grids and building systems under climate change. Heat waves in cities lead to a steep increase of building load demands, which puts greater pressure on the grid's reliable power supply. Xueyuan is working on finding feasible ways to alleviate the supply pressure of high-temperature loads by optimizing supply-demand balance curves. On the one hand, he studies how to accurately model and efficiently control building systems. It will fully exploit the flexible potential of building demand-side resources to actively transfer building peak loads. On the other hand, he studies the power generation potential of building-integrated renewable sources. By analyzing the characteristics of multi-timescale power generation, the output curves of local supply-side resources can be optimized.
