Prem Shankar Jha

Prem Shankar Jha
, an Indian journalist, writer and economist, was recognized for his distinguished writing career and signification contributions to the journalism field. Jha was presented a RedInk Award for Lifetime Achievement, given by the Mumbai Press Club in India. This annual collection of awards celebrates excellence in journalistic achievements, as determined by an accomplished jury. The award was presented to Jha by the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

“It is profoundly gratifying for any writer to be appreciated by his readers, but it is even more so when the recognition comes from one's peers,” says Jha. “One thing that I always followed in my journalism career was that I never overruled my consciousness to protect my career. In this age of digitization, everyone can be tracked all the time; we journalists should be careful and fight for the truth.”

During the decades of Jha’s career, he has served in the United Nations Development Programme; as the information advisor to the Prime Minister of India; and as a journalist in a number of editorial positions at Hindustan Times, The Times of India, The Economic Times and The Financial Express. Jha is the author of a dozen books including Dawn of the Solar Age: An End to Global Warming; Crouching Dragon, Hidden Tiger: Can China and India Dominate the West?; and Managed Chaos: The Fragility of the Chinese Miracle . Jha and Professor Michael B. McElroy, Harvard-China Project Chair, are collaborating on a book on the energy landscape in India.
